About 1771 Co · Minneapolis · since 2013

Two partners who build it with you

1771 Co is a Minneapolis consultancy founded in 2013. We started in Salesforce, shipped software that people still rate five stars, and now spend most of our time building AI tools with owner-led businesses, live, in their own accounts.

How 1771 Co started

Ben McDermott founded 1771 in Minneapolis in 2013 as a Salesforce consultancy. Over the next decade it delivered more than fifty Salesforce projects for organizations like Cargill, Optum, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Adobe, NetApp, and Snap-on, and for dozens of small Minnesota companies that needed the same care at a smaller scale.

Along the way we built our own products on the platform. Saver and Dragger are Salesforce AppExchange apps used daily inside customer orgs and rated 4.98 across 51 reviews. Faxer.me is a pay-per-fax web and iPhone app. Shipping software that strangers review in public is a good discipline, and it's the standard we bring to client work.

Why we moved to AI retainers

The businesses that most need automation are the ones least able to hire for it: owner-led companies of two to twenty-five people where the founder still does intake, follow-up, quoting, and reporting by hand. A strategy deck doesn't help them. Neither does a product they rent and can't change.

So the AI retainer is built the way our best Salesforce engagements always ran. Twice a month we sit down together on a screen share, find the repetitive work, and build the tool that takes it, in the client's own accounts. Between sessions, a text gets a quick answer. The price is on the website. Dan Roseman, the second partner, brings thirteen years of building compliance programs and AI agents at Coinbase, Circle, Square, and Robinhood.

Ben started 1771 in Minneapolis in 2013 and has spent the years since making software do what businesses actually need: 50+ Salesforce projects for organizations like Cargill, Optum, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Adobe, NetApp, and Snap-on, alongside dozens of small Minnesota companies.

He also ships his own software, including two Salesforce AppExchange apps rated 4.98 across 51 reviews by the people who use them every day.

Dan has built compliance programs from scratch since 2013: employee #12 at Coinbase, then Circle, Square's Cash App, and Robinhood Crypto, where he was the AML Compliance Officer. He has also helped build AI agents for anti-money-laundering work.

He's the one you want when a workflow touches money, risk, or a regulator. On weekends he runs a food truck, so he knows what owner-led looks like at six in the morning.

How we work

  • Every session is live and screen-shared. You watch the tool get built and can change it afterward.
  • Everything runs in your accounts. If you stop working with us, you keep all of it.
  • You work with the partners. There is no bench, no account manager, and no handoff to a junior.
  • The price is public. Nobody should have to sit through a call to learn what something costs.
  • The first call is session one, not a pitch. We build something in it, and we'll say plainly if the retainer isn't the right fit.
